To meet the mission of the Health Services department at the MN Department of Corrections and partnering in Health and Well-being, this position will provide comprehensive preventative, oral health care and treatment needs for the incarcerated individuals at the Minnesota Correctional Facilities. This position will promote general dental health and carry out routine treatment that has been prescribed by a registered dentist. These treatments could include simple fillings, applying fluoride and taking x-rays.

This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide advanced dental services to incarcerated individuals consistent with established Department of Corrections dental guidelines, directives, and in compliance with Collaborative Management Agreement, the State Board of Dentistry, and Minnesota Statutory - scope of practice rules.

  2. Perform and provide general dental services to incarcerated individuals consistent with established DOC Dental guidelines, directives, and in compliance with the scope of practice rules for services allowed under indirect supervision.

  3. Provide technical support, clinical assistance, and supervision to the Dental team, including but not limited to the supervising Dentist. Provide feedback to the Director of Clinical Operations for the performance evaluation of Dentists, Dental Assistants, and Dental Hygienists.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Licensure:

  • Licensed to practice Dental Therapy in the State of Minnesota

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities::

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of general dentistry including broad knowledge and experience of the techniques involved.

  • Skill in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of dental diseases and injuries and processes.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively in all situations.

  • Excellent listening, oral and written English skills in communicating with patients, families, health professionals and community agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community health knowledge and theory.

  • Culturally sensitivity with respect to working with persons and groups if diverse racial, ethnic, economic and social backgrounds.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
