Job Description

The Trading & Supply Mexico Commercial Operator is accountable for execution of all main fuels movements in support of Trading, Supply & Retail chain value following T&S guidelines. In terms of product slate, this includes both domestic and international quality of gasolines, and distillates. Sourcing for products includes Refineries, Terminals, JV, and 3rd parties, as well as product procured from major offtake or exchange agreements traded in terminals and in transit. Modes of transport managed include but are not limited to marine, pipeline, rail, and truck.

Commercial Operators are primarily accountable for coordinating all aspects of trading & supply commercial operations (both oil and freight aspects of the deal), nomination and scheduling activities for a defined set of accounts or terminals and ensures that all obligations arising from the oil contracts and/or charter parties are carried out. As the Relief Operator supporting the work-life balance of the team during vacations, trainings and other out of office events, it will be vital to quickly gain competence over a large range of operations being handled.

All above having and practicing HSSE & Compliance awareness, Operational mindset, Commercial mindset, and Learner mindset.

The Commercial Operator is also accountable for managing key internal & external stakeholders and cross-department partners e.g., Traders, BD, Fuels Sales & marketing, Contracts, CO, Demand Coordinators, Finance, Quality control, etc.

Specific accountabilities included some/all of the following:

Supply Chain Execution & Optimization

  • Schedule Marine, Barge, Pipeline, Road, and/or Rail movements consistent with contractual terms

  • Effectively manage product stocks both in support of working capital optimization and cash release as well as in assurance of supply reliability for third party trading and retail customers

  • Ensure operational optimization within dealmaker limits for all spot and term products contracts, long-term purchase/sales contracts, and exchange agreements.

  • Support equity refinery optimization in terms of blending, product giveaway minimization, marginal production optimization, and refinery stock management when applicable.

  • Analyze risks and opportunities within supply chain and present proposals to key stakeholders to mitigate risks and capture margins.

  • Responsible for managing product quality parameters/specifications to maximize profitability.

  • Responsible for daily updating/monthly reconciling of inventory at terminals and adhering to end of month processes as defined by the business.

  • Ensure all contractual obligations, agreements, and requirements are complied with from end to end.

  • Manage relationships with finance, claims, oil, freight, road, rail counterparties.

  • Ensure all data pertaining to scheduling, customs, and claims/demurrage are accurately recorded in scheduling tools in a timely manner to enable efficient handling by the relevant service departments.

  • Keep adequate records to meet the company’s legal and fiscal obligations.

  • Effectively communicate with traders, channel optimizers, hydrocarbon dealmakers and other schedulers/team members to develop logistical solutions to meet commercial expectations.

  • Develop and maintain a solid networking foundation amongst key internal and external contacts.

  • Optimize manual spreadsheets and tools used as business grows and actively seek automation solutions.

HSSE / Compliance / Product Quality:

  • Responsible to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all movements within operational remit.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with all Mexico HSSE control frameworks, such as OSP Assurance and the Shell Marine Vetting process.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with all import/export and customs requirements as applicable.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with all product quality standards and requirements for product to meet specifications.

  • Responsible to ensure robust movement planning in terms of all batches fitting into all terminals, every time.

  • Responsible to ensure adherence to all hydrocarbon management (HM) controls and processes when applicable.

  • Ensure all training is up to date for operator responsibilities.

Dimensions

  • Operational accountability for multiple purchase-for-resale or exchange contracts

  • Operational accountability for multiple terminal supply locations

Requirements

Bilingual Spanish – English

Experience with Manufacturing, Chemicals, Lubes Supply Chain or Trading & Supply strongly preferred.

Familiarity with products traded/supplied Gasoline (Premium & Magna), Distillates.

Familiarity with NOM-016-CRE-2016

Demonstrated ability/willingness to make informed highly impactful operational decisions in the face of incomplete information and a high degree of financial consequence.

Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries and in the face of competing individual business priorities.

Has commercial acumen and good knowledge of exposure awareness.

Advanced Spreadsheet or Excel skills is a must.

As this is an operational role the position is accountable for 24x7 operations assurance and has the potential to require a significant degree of off-hours support.
