Amazon Web Services (AWS) Security is looking for a passionate, innovative, and motivated Data Engineering Manager for the AWS Vulnerability Management team. At AWS, security is job zero, and our team is responsible for creating and automating data security solutions at AWS’ scale in support of the vulnerability management program. We are data-driven, set big goals, and are always challenging ourselves raise the security bar at AWS.

As a Data Engineering Manager within our team, you will dig in to our customers' most difficult requests by analyzing and processing big data using various security data and analytics platforms, and partner to create data and analytics solutions that will improve our builders' experience with security and meet our compliance goals.

In this role, you will be part of an agile team of data engineers, business intelligence engineers, software developers, and program and product managers who solve complex security challenges that have direct and measurable impact on our customers. Our programs stretch across all of AWS, giving you the opportunity to interact with product teams, industry specialists, security partners, and organization leaders.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the problem space: Working backwards from the customer experience and through deep data analysis, you will identify short- and long-term opportunities for improving data quality and design data solutions around it. You will lead your team in building a system that provides business insights at millions of intersections of data and identifying new opportunities to improve our security posture.

  • Design a system that can handle data at massive scale: You will lead a team to build solutions that scale for billions of records with strict demands of availability, latency and maintainability.

  • Be the driver of new technology and Ideas: Our solutions are built on AWS technologies such as Redshift, Glue, Lambda, ECS etc. and open-source software such as Spark, Airflow, etc. In addition to leveraging these fully, you will look for new technologies and continually push the team towards novel and simpler ways to build solutions.

  • Be the ultimate problem solver: You will take the most vexing problems head on and stretch the boundaries of what is doable.

• Mentor and Develop Talent: Assist in the career development of others, mentoring employees and teams on advanced technical issues and career growth. This team is globally distributed and there is a chance to be a part of the build out of the group.

• Raise the Quality Bar: Provide guidance and mentoring to ensure that right technology choices are being made. Provide technical guidance across multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.

• Define the long-term strategy: Be part of the management team that develops strategic plans and ensures tactical execution of these plans.

• Improve Operational Excellence: Drive projects that reduce technical debt and improve operational excellence

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or Master's degree

  • 5+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Teradata, Netezza, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience

  • 8+ years of developing and operating large-scale data structures for business intelligence analytics (using ETL/ELT processes) experience

  • 5+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent

  • Knowledge of software development life cycle or agile development environment with emphasis on BI practices

  • Experience in relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL)

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

  • Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EC2)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $264,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
