Intermountain Health Biorepository Inventory Technician in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the sample inventory management activity for the Biorepository and other duties and activities associated with supporting research studies within the Biorepository. The incumbent provides support to research coordinators, histologists, pathologists, and other members of the Biorepository team.

Scope

This position reports to the Manager of the Biorepository. Under supervision, the incumbent collaborates with members of the Biorepository, study team, and other research departments. This position provides support on research projects that serve the system as a whole, working with study samples that are used by others to improve patient outcomes and support research initiatives, both internal and external to Intermountain. Travels to various facilities as needed to provide on-site collaboration and partnership.

Job Essentials

  1. Assists in the preparation of biologic samples.

  2. Collects, inputs, and maintains data in Intermountain and external databases.

  3. Performs organization, shipping, and re-stocking of samples for active projects.

  4. Receives new shipments of samples, coordinates the storage, and updates inventory.

  5. Conducts barcoding and data uploads of incoming samples.

  6. Conducts scans and assists in the deidentification of samples as they enter the Biorepository.

  7. Facilitates digitization of archival information.

  8. Works to maintain knowledge of compliance to ensure compliance with CAP requirements.

  9. Provides support to other members of the team and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong attention to detail, highly proactive, well-organized, and experience multitasking and meeting deadlines.

Experience using word processing, advanced or complex spreadsheet and database applications, internet, e-mail and scheduling applications, and computerized tracking systems.

  • and -

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Post high school education.

Experience in a research role.

  • and -

Experience working with laboratory protocol, systems, and documentation techniques.

  • and -

Familiarity or experience with pathology or tissue collection processes.

  • and -

Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, etc. and to identify equipment and supplies and to utilize a wide variety of information, including organizing and completing documentation and forms, accessing and entering computer information, and identifying needs and urgent issues.

  • and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy (e.g., frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient interactions, accessing needed information, operating telephones and other office equipment, including manipulating paper which requires the ability to move fingers and hands).

  • and -

Expected to bend, lift, and carry patient files, documents, equipment, and supplies.

  • and -

Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time while interacting with others to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.29 - $24.84
