Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) seeks a Project Engineer to join the Direct Feed Low Activity Waste (DFLAW) Engineering team.

This position supports the Advanced Modular Pretreatment System (AMPS) that directly supports the Department of Energy's key objective to provide direct feed of Hanford Tank Waste to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP). The Engineer filling this position will support a project that builds on the success of the Tank Side Cesium Removal (TSCR) system design incorporating lessons learned from 2 years of Operations. The new AMPS process units will be designed, fabricated, constructed, installed and commissioned in the 200 East Area of the Hanford Tank Farms adjacent to the current operating TSCR unit.

This role presents the exciting opportunity to be part of the beginning of the AMPS Project all the way through Design to Operations in 2029.

The Project Engineer filling these roles will:

  • Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.

  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking and require minimal guidance.

  • Function as a team member or lead a task force or special assignment.

Meet the following scope and expectations:

  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project.

  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.

  • General knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Set challenging goals for personal and group accomplishments.

  • Develop and sustain productive customer relationships.

  • Prepare Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.

  • Lead teams or function as a team member consisting of both internal and external resources.

  • Perform technical and cost/benefit evaluations and develop task plans and schedules.

  • Prepare design media.

  • Prepare Engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.

  • Perform routine administrative activities/duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, TIS, continuing training, staff meetings).

  • Ensure all documents prepared are of "stand alone" quality.

  • Understand engineering work assignments and to be self-directed.

  • Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff members and interns.

Required Qualifications

Grade 20:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Ten (10) years related experience

Grade 21:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Twelve (12) years related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience as a project engineer

Previous experience in a nuclear facility

Knowledge of codes and standards

Familiarity with TOC procedures

Compensation & Benefits

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875

Grade 21:

Hiring Range Minimum: $138,700

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
