Role Purpose

Responsible for the administration and review of all Quality related issues within an IPT, ensuring that quality is maintained by adherence to Customer and regulatory authority requirements, controlof manufacturing processes and the use of problem solving and improvement tools.To develop and deploy the Quality Policy and Strategy, execute and provide support for the key project Quality activities and ensure that project quality issues are effectively reported and managed. Drive the supplier quality interface and ensure that all supplier quality issues are communicated as appropriate with the QA department and execute product audits as required.Support the Team Leader in discharging the people responsibilities such as the PDR, training/development and the related Workforce Management System responsibilities.

Salary: Grade will be determined based on experience (either Grade D or Grade E)

Responsibilities

  • To actively review and develop manufacturing processes, ensuring they are maintained within “control” limits and product Quality is achieved. Ensure that critical processes such as Quality Management Review, First Article Inspection/Verification, Concession/Non- conformance Analysis and Archiving are managed effectively in accordance with formal processes.

  • Take the appropriate action to review and maintain the project QMS, compile and communicate Quality procedures and assist the IPT to ensure that project procedures are developed, deployed and maintained. Assist in the deployment of the Quality Policy strategy effectively within the project and ensure that it is reflected and delivered within the product and supporting processes.

  • Report the project quality performance regularly, establish targets for improvement, analyse the data being generated to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions.

  • Provide support to ensure the project continually conforms to company, customer and regulatory authority Quality requirements through the application of Product Audit and other appropriate tools.

  • To design and deliver the requisite Quality training to support project staff requirements and the specific training of quality engineers.

  • Manage and/or support the supplier quality interface and ensure that all supplier quality issues, Occurrences, Concessions and NOE’s etc. are managed to an agreed timescale. Liase with internal and external customers and suppliers on quality issues and defect investigations. Provide data in relation to non-conformance and supplier metrics.

  • To support and contribute to the project Quality review mechanism ensuring focus on reactive and proactive improvements (Advance Product Quality Planning) and ensure that all key quality issues are escalated within the business review structure to drive root cause correction.

  • Manage the Material Review Board (MRB) process ensuring that all items are appropriately dispositioned and concessions are expedited in a timely manner. Ensure that the project manages non-conformance and corrective action effectively. Support the business QRQC process in relation to MRB within the project.

  • To ensure appropriate inspection planning, Last Article Inspection (LAI) and First Article Inspection/Verification (FAI/V) and delegated source inspection programmes are generated and maintained by the project.

  • To ensure Quality staff ‘people processes’ are managed by the project as required.

  • Provide support to the project in terms of being the Quality focal point for customer, supplier and regulatory authorities as appropriate.

  • Responsible for people issues in the absence of the Quality and Engineering Team Leader and related Workforce Management System responsibilities.

  • Support the identification of training and development requirements of Quality Engineering staff through the PM process.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Preferably be qualified to HNC level in a related Quality and Engineering discipline.

  • Have 5 years relevant engineering experience, within a Quality Engineering environment.

  • Should also possess knowledge of AS 9100 as well as regulatory authority approval, and certification requirements.

  • Good communication skills – interface with customers and Suppliers.

  • Knowledge of engineering systems and the ability to deploy the Quality Toolset.

  • Awareness of drawings and systems as applied within our major customers such as Boeing and Airbus.

  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Packages – Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.

    Decision Making Authority

  • Guidance is typically available from established policies or from related procedures. In addition guidance is also available from well defined procedures (what to do, not how to do it).

  • Reviews will typically only occur at the completion of defined projects (or project stages) and therefore will not occur with any degree of fixed regularity.

  • Decisions which affect their own job seldom requires approval. Decisions which impact on a work team or a department will require occasional approval by the Team Leader. Decisions which impact on other projects or functions will require regular approval from the Team Leader. In addition decisions which impact on the customer or suppliers will require occasional approval from the Team Leader.

  • The job holder is likely to responsible for direct reports, indirect reports and contract staff. Will generally be responsible for the leadership of others, for co-ordinating or supervising a team member or team; scheduling hours, checking results, taking actions to ensure quality standards are met and conducting performance assessments on others.
