Valero Supervisor Technical Training in PORT ARTHUR, Texas

Description:

Supervises Technical Training staff. Identifies technical training requirements for each area of the refinery, determines training objectives resulting from these requirements, and identifies individuals to fill technical training roles.

  • Ensures the facility training programs are aligned with the aims and objectives of the organization as a whole.
  • Supervises, monitors, and provides feedback to personnel who are permanently or temporarily assigned to the Technical Training Department.
  • Coaches and develops the technical training team to ensure that each individual is prepared for current and future technical training challenges.
  • Identifies and coordinates subject matter experts (SMEs) to conduct technical training.
  • Evaluates technical training materials, including outlines, text, PowerPoint presentations, and handouts/job aides.
  • Provides management and oversight of the site’s technical training resources, which may include Learning Management Systems (LMSs), e-learning tools, training aids, training library, facilities, computer labs, multimedia equipment, training props, etc.
  • Sustains an open line of communication with the facility’s leadership team and first line supervision to assess and target training needs.
  • Oversees pilot programs and works with the Corporate Technical Training Department to coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the pilot program.
  • Maintains a partnership and open line of communication with the Corporate Technical Training Department and the LEAD Department.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors training budgets.
  • Ensures 100% compliance with all required training (i.e., safety, environmental, etc.)
  • Communicates with facility HR Manager/Director and appropriate department Directors to identify employees who have lost qualifications due to overdue training requirements.
  • Provides excellent customer service and responds appropriately to customer feedback, concerns/issues, and input.
  • Communicates with facility HR Manager/Director to identify and evaluate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the site’s training program. Reports results to Corporate Technical Training.
  • Participates in Corporate Health, Safety, PSM, and Environmental audits to verify that site training is properly documented and meets or exceeds organizational requirements.
  • Serves as the primary contact during audits of training records.
  • Develops ongoing training plans to provide employees with government and company required training.
  • Applies instructional system design and development principles when developing/reviewing training materials (ILT and CBT).
  • Manages and coordinates the Basic Operator Training (BOT) Program and Refresher Training Program.
  • Reviews and approves class schedules, based on availability of classrooms, equipment, and instructors.
  • Performs and reviews internal audits, surveys, and/or interviews with attendees to evaluate training course effectiveness. Uses the data collected to improve and make changes to curriculum.
  • Serves as liaison between company, federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Reviewing third party training commissioned by other departments to ensure effectiveness of the program, instructor, and overall course.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:
* Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Port Arthur Refinery, required. * High School diploma or GED required * 8 years of training development experience required. * Bachelor’s degree in related area preferred. * Process operations experience in a refinery environment preferred. * Microsoft Power BI experience preferred.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
