Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Sr. Principal Data Scientist and Principal Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in Palmdale, CA where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.

Data Scientist job duties involve the following:

  • Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets. Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization. Requires strong statistical and data visualization skills.

Principal Data Scientist

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters

  • Strong understanding of JavaScript, SQL, Python, Tableau

  • Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques

  • Understanding of Agile Software Development

  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations

  • Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema

  • Experience with dashboarding frameworks (Plotly Dash, Panel, Streamlit, Tableau, etc.)

  • Experience with modeling and normalizing complex data

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Ability to work 1st shift "5:00am-3:30pm" or 2nd shift "4:12pm-2:42am" and any work schedule (times may vary)

  • Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling

  • Active Secret clearance, with ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Principal Data Scientist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering/Computer Science

  • Top Secret clearance preferred

  • Hands-on experience with core Python data science tools (Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciKit-Learn, etc.)

  • Hands-on experience with deep learning libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)

  • Experience with anomaly detection and synthetic data strategies for machine learning

  • Experience with computer vision (CNN, Transformer architectures) and image/video data preparation for machine learning

  • Hands-on experience with time series analysis and sequence modeling

  • Experience with Cloud environments (Azure, AWS-SageMaker, S3, etc.)

  • Agile development

  • Experience developing tools to improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.

Sr. Principal Data Scientist

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 9 years experience in engineering or related field OR a Master's degree with 7 years of related experience.

  • Strong understanding of SQL, Python, Tableau

  • Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations

  • Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema

  • Experience with dashboarding frameworks (Plotly Dash, Panel, Streamlit, Tableau, etc.)

  • Experience with modeling and normalizing complex data

Salary Range: $146,300 - $219,500

Salary Range 2: $118,000 - $177,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
