MCFARLAND PRODUCE, LLC Farm /Irrigation Worker (Temporary) in OGDEN, Utah

Temporary Need: 03/15/24 - 12/03/24. Eight (8) full-time, seasonal, temporary Farm/Irrigation Workers needed. Requirements: Applicants must have 3 months experience with farm/irrigation work and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required. Be able to lift 100lbs. Location: Work will be performed in Ogden and Huntsville, Utah. Will work 48 hrs/wk, 6:30 am-3:30pm, Mon-Sat. Wage is $16.63/hr. Duties: Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of alfalfa, grass, sweet corn, onions, squash, peppers, tomatoes, and pumpkins. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: prepare fields; maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; may also plant crops by hand; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; replace/repair fencing; perform general cleanup of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; Transport crops to / from market / storage; husk/shell/de-tassel corn; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; harvest/pack/store crop; trap/poison pests; pickup/handle/climb ladders; clear property; weed using farm hand tools; transport crops to market. Irrigation duties will include the following: Flood Irrigation: lift gate in side of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field; shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow; close gate in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded; open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch; siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas; shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water; mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates. Drip Irrigation: walk behind tractor to assist in installing/laying drip irrigation; move drip hoses; maintain/repair drip irrigation; flush lines; remove drip irrigation and layflat from fields prior to harvest; ensure layflat spools correctly when removing from field. Duties related to the Packing/Harvesting of Produce will include the following: Will apply techniques as instructed by the employer to: pick produce; sort seed according to grade, color and size; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; cleanup around conveyors and worksite; place produce in containers or on designated conveyors; hand product off to or receive from another worker for placement in boxes located on trailers; place produce in boxes located on trailers; select cappers; prepare crops for shipment. Job duties may require shifts that span two calendar days. Work hours may vary and there may be periods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time of year, and the requirements of the cropping program. Terms and conditions of employment: Workers must be available for the entire work period; work at a sustained, vigorous pace on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Workers are required to keep all property, housing, and farm buildings clean, and must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor; employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervisi on; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated; must be able to provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. All tools, supplies and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned will be provided at no cost or deposit to the worker. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked in crop harvesting during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer ($15.46/day, maximum $59/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage that is issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed (or whichever is the highest rate). This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
