IT Manager - Application Administrator/Site Reliability Engineer – Enterprise Solutions - Hybrid

We have an exciting opportunity for a Hybrid IT Manager to join the Enterprise Solutions team! In this role, you will lead a team of App Admins and SREs with a focus on environments and solutions in the Enterprise Solutions area. Establish plans with a measurable contribution towards the achievement of results. Focus is on providing measurable input to new products, processes or standards.

As the IT Manager of the Application Administrator & SRE teams, you will be responsible for supervising the administration and maintenance of specified N-tier applications within Ferguson's technical environment to include installation, configuration, monitoring, planning, troubleshooting and issue resolution. The ideal candidate will have prior solid understanding of managing and building deployment pipelines as well as analyzing performance data and implement any changes for system optimization. As the manager of this group you will be responsible for the team.

This is a Hybrid role based out of the Newport News, VA HQ3 location, in accordance with Ferguson's Flex schedule policy; 3 days office / 2 days remote.

Problem Solving:

Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems, policies or products to enhance performance of the job area. Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to recognize the problem. Problems are difficult and moderately complex. Problems typically impact multiple departments or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues. Has autonomy and authority to define solutions to non-routine problems within established operational boundaries and procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer N-tier application(s)

  • Administer cloud applications (Azure, Oracle)

  • Ensure the quality and delivery of application operations supporting the business in accordance with agreed upon standards.

  • Perform Capacity Planning to ensure appropriate storage and/or processing capability for the specified applications to support present and future initiatives.

  • Provide level 3 technical support to include proactive and reactive incident resolution.

  • Perform proactive review of applications and systems performance metrics and alerts to ensure event correlation and trend analysis are performed on a periodic basis.

  • Collaborate with Systems Administrators to troubleshoot hardware and OS-level issues on all platforms to include RedHat/Oracle Linux, Windows Server, Azure and Oracle

  • Collaborate with Network Engineers to solve networking issues as it pertains to specified Applications.

  • Be able to identify recurring incidents impacting user population, help identify root cause, and resolve problems.

  • Establish alerting and automated fix actions for application issues.

  • Ensure knowledge database is populated with resolutions, workarounds and known issues.

  • Review system logs to identify signs of potential problems.

  • Complete software or system releases as requested.

  • Establish and maintain users in regard to their files, rights and account restrictions.

  • Stay ahead of on technologies affecting current systems infrastructure issues.

  • Respond to requests for configuration changes.

  • Resolve performance issues.

  • Provide leadership in the way we make decisions to ensure all areas are covered.

  • Facilitates and acts as a focal point for communication system related problems within the department and collaborates with other IT teams and leaders on solutions, enhancements and process improvements.

  • Hires, coaches, and evaluates associates, their performance and implements corrective action as necessary.

  • Develops relevant metrics, measures and publishes the performance of the services provided and enables continuous improvement activities in collaboration with peer groups.

  • Works closely with all other IT management personnel in identifying, evaluating, selecting and implementing specific information technologies that support the business plans and IT strategies.

  • Defines procedures that are aligned with IT and Ferguson policies, while working to change those policies that are outdated or do not fit the true nature of the work.

  • Assists with the preparing of budgets for IT systems, services and associate needs.

  • Reviews and evaluates relevant new technology, processes, developments and forecasts future trends in the IT industry.

  • Maintains a solid understanding of technology and its application to achieve IT and business objectives.

  • Participate in leadership meetings and represent associate concerns, policies and guidelines to the management team.

  • Conduct regular associate meetings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7+ years systems administration experience.

  • Infrastructure and Operating System Knowledge.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills and service orientation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in written and non-written formats.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Lead and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Detail oriented – Attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.

  • Ability to understand and create infrastructure diagrams using Visio.

  • Possess advanced Windows server administration skills.

  • Thorough understanding and experience with Linux.

  • Experience with shell\Windows scripting.

  • Thorough understanding of networking connectivity and load balancing.

  • Experience or familiarity with application deployments through change management.

  • Experience or familiarity with IIS, HTML, Java, Jboss, Azure and Oracle Cloud.

  • Experience writing SQL queries and scripts.

Pay Range:

$7,568.91 - $13,247.76

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.
