Better Futures MN Crew Member workforce development participant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview: Better Futures Minnesota (The Company) is an ambitious enterprise that initiates, promotes and protects Environmental Stewardship. Crew Members will work in one or more business lines, including Property or Janitorial Services, Retail Sales at the ReUse Warehouse, Appliance Recycling, Waste Diversion, Curbside Pickup, and Deconstruction. Better Futures intentionally embraces high-risk adults living in chronic poverty with histories of persistent unemployment, untreated mental illness, addiction, incarceration, homelessness, and dependence on public services. We view their circumstances as a public health problem that originates in the core hurts, trauma, loss, and violence they have experienced. This Crew Member opportunity is made possible by appropriations from the workforce development fund for a grant to Better Futures Minnesota to provide job skills training to men who have been released from incarceration for a felony-level offense and are no more than 12 months from the date of release. Our Mission Better Futures Minnesota s purpose is to fuel and guide our men s desire to turn their lives around and walk a new path toward better health and success. We are also intent on changing the costly systems and practices that produce poor results and perpetuate the chaos and cycles of dependency experienced by men who have faced incarceration. Our Vision We are an Enterprise that is bigger and more ambitious than a program. We are innovative social enterprise model with a nonprofit status and a for-profit mindset. We are building a movement that supports personal transformation and a healthy, vibrant community of men. We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at the American dream, and for the men we serve, that means the opportunity to become productive citizens, fathers, employees, and neighbors. Whether intentional or not, our society has turned its back on a group of people, overwhelmingly African American men, who are labeled as chronically homeless, chronically unemployed, frequent offenders, and frequent users. This is public health crisis that has a deep human and financial toll. We seek to address this crisis through an evidence-based, integrated-care model that connects the men of Better Futures with the Four Fundamentals (health, housings, jobs, and coaching) and focuses on healing, personal accountability, and hard work all of the parts working together to achieve personal transformation and positive outcomes. Since 2007, Better Futures Minnesota s unique model has helped men realize their potential for success and become responsible members of the community who earn wages, pay taxes and child support, and are self-sufficient and engaged in building their own success stories. Work matters Work and a reliable job have deep practical and intrinsic values that s why each participant in Better Futures has the opportunity to build valuable job skills that can help them build their own success stories.
