Group Product Manager – Body, Lighting & Thermal (Embedded Controls)

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum.

The newly created Product Management team at General Motors is adding a Group Product Manager position that will be focused on Body, Lighting and Thermal technologies. This leadership role will be responsible for optimizing and centralizing the strategy for software and embedded controls. There is a lot of opportunity for this position to make a substantial contribution to overall success of the organization.

We are looking for a Technical Group Product Manager who understands the ins and outs Body, Lighting and Thermal from an Embedded Software/Controls perspective.

The Role:

The Group Product Manager of Body, Lighting & Thermal will lead a team of Product Managers that are responsible for developing, managing, and driving product initiatives across the company. This will include creating and leading the product vision, roadmap, and requirements.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for software and vehicles that set the standard for all performance attributes. This will be a very technical position, so having in-depth knowledge of all things related to Body, Lighting and Thermal products will be critical. This includes being an expert in controls hardware and software development in this domain.

This team is the owner of the strategy of what we should be developing greater solutions for in the future, and what we should be maintaining in present day. The Group Product Manager is responsible that we stay on the leading edge of technology, have proper business cases for the future vision, and lead the collaboration with Design, Development, and Program Management pillars.

What You’ll do:

  • Directly lead a team of Product Managers that collaborates with a large set of stakeholders to identify, build, and test customer value propositions

  • Assure Products work cohesively with others, and know the technical details around critical decisions from within the Product area

  • Work with senior leaders of the company to establish and execute technical strategies

  • Understand your customer better than anyone else by creating and analyzing software related to dealership and vehicle data

  • Be the expert in all things related to competitors and new technologies in the Chassis & Vehicle Motion Product area

  • Know and understand the current and future health of the Product and take action when necessary

  • Define and track key metrics using OKRs and KPIs to measure product success and inform future decisions

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics

  • 8+ years of Engineering experience in a technical environment requiring a high analytical capability

  • 5+ years of Software Development, Controls Engineering or relevant Calibration experience

  • Must have hands on experience with Body, Lighting and Thermal Technologies and Controls

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills to be able to communicate at all levels of the company

  • Strong understanding of major automotive systems and subsystems (software and controls)

  • Strong understanding of the global vehicle development process and related program execution deliverables

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • 5+ years of technical experience in propulsion / propulsion interfacing functions

  • 3+ years of Technical Product Management experience

  • Understanding of system reliability, safety, monitoring, and diagnostic technologies and processes

A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.
