The Charge Nurse is responsible in assisting the Nurse Manager in directing, organizing and supervising the work of the LRHC nursing staff, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing or medical assistants and interpreters. The Charge Nurse provides leadership and nursing services to patients in our community health setting and works with the health care team of medical providers to provide quality health care services for our patients. The Charge Nurse assists in the administrative requirements in the medical service area and works closely with the CMO, Providers, Chief Operations Officer and Director of QI.

Essential Job Responsibilities:\ Listed are a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of a charge nurse at La Red Health Center. This is not a comprehensive or exhaustive list or all job functions.\ 1. Manages the daily operations of the nursing staff, medical assistants and interpreters. Assists manager with monthly schedules, managing call-out coverage and ensures adequate nurse/provider staffing.\ 2. Provides patient care based on practice guidelines standards of care and federal/state laws and regulations.\ 3. Manages the activities of the day by staff, patients, students and providers to assure a smooth, efficient patient flow.\ 4. Assists Nurse Manager with monitoring clinical staff performance, including attendance, and writes and issues yearly meaningful performance evaluations.\ 5. Regularly interfaces with providers, managers and staff to improve processes and facilitate communication.\ 6. Works with the Safety Director to assure that all medical equipment and supplies that may be needed are available at the time it is needed, and in emergencies, including medications and notification of emergency personnel when necessary.\ 7. Observes and maintains universal standard precautions and infection control procedures and processes.\ 8. Oversees and controls stock drugs, vaccines and clinical inventory; monitors stock for expiration dates.\ 9. Assures that all EMR documentation is complete as required.\ 10. Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes and quality improvement.\ 11. Ensures the staff is properly trained.
