This posting will be used to fill 2 positions.

The position will assist in performing and/or perform field operations of the Foundations Unit while operating the soil testing and sampling equipment in a safe and efficient manner for the investigation of subsurface soil, rock, and groundwater properties at transportation related sites across the State of Minnesota.

Examples of work for this TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR (TGS) vacancy include but are not limited to:

  • Transport vehicles and heavy equipment.

  • Maintain support vehicles and drilling equipment for subsurface investigation activities.

  • Operate field equipment to investigate subsurface conditions.

  • Investigate subsurface conditions through testing and sample collection.

Minimum Qualifications

The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR (TGS) level can be achieved with:

  • A valid Class A CDL with no air brake restriction AND a tanker endorsement; AND

  • Two years of experience performing soils or materials testing related activities; OR

  • One year of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one year in any roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas such as: soils, traffic, surveys, design, construction, hydraulics, maintenance etc.

  • Note:A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees:Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist with documented satisfactory performance.

  • Experience with hollow stem auger and/or mud rotary drilling.
