Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the direction of the MHE Fleet Mechanic Manager, the MHE Fleet Mechanic I will be responsible for routine preventive and non-routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs of the HCA Lakeland MHE fleet. They will ensure safe and reliable operation, diagnose, service and repair a variety of MHE (reach, sit-down, swing trucks, order pickers, etc.), by studying electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic system requirements, conducting tests and resolving problems. The MHE Fleet Mechanic I shall also be responsible for maintenance of MHE batteries and chargers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.

  • Use hand tools and utilize computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Track KPIs, MTTR, MTBF, MTTF, etc.

  • Read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.

  • Assist MHE Fleet Mechanic Manager in the completion of all project work.

  • Routine checks of hydraulic fluid levels, tire wear, the condition of the forks, drive control, steering and brakes.

  • Attend training sessions as required.

  • Utilize various dealer computer systems for warranty work and other documentation.

  • Maintain technical documentation and a high awareness of technical changes in the industry.

  • Manage workloads independently and maintain daily communication with MHE Fleet Mechanic Manager.

  • Knowledge of controls and electric (AC/DC low voltage).

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems including, transmissions, drive units, differentials, braking systems, telescopic masts, reach mechanisms, steering systems, suspension systems, etc.

  • Lubricate MHE and perform other duties in connection with preventive maintenance and operation as required.

  • Replace as needed, work broken parts, adjust brakes, tighten body bolts, aligne wheels, etc.

  • Maintain and repair battery chargers.

  • Assist with MHE battery exchanges.

  • Perform all preventive maintenance of MHE batteries, repair plugs and tips of batteries and chargers, water and wash batteries, acid spill cleanup, battery rack sweeping and cleaning.

  • Implement and maintain equalizing program of all MHE batteries.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the highest safety standards are met.

  • Check, adjust, replacing all belts and chains as needed.

  • Remove and replace electric drive motors and controls.

  • Review and complete repairs identified on Work Orders.

  • Estimate time and material costs on lift truck repairs and requisition new parts.

  • Ability to safely operate various lift trucks.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in departmental on-call program, as designated.

  • Obtain HCA certification to operate all forklifts in accordance with OSHA standards.

  • Must be willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends, as needed.

  • Must be able to operate with little or no supervision.

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent. Preferred

  • 1-2 years relevant MHE maintenance work experience. Required

  • Technical degree. Preferred

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Required

  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaker a plus. Preferred

  • Ability to communicate and understand English Required Certifications Preferred

  • Light electrical circuitry. Preferred
