Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer - Weapons & Sensors

Location: Glenrothes (37 hours over 4 day week - Mon-Thur)

Summary of Role:

Responsible for identifying, scoping and delivering Quality Control & Assurance in support of Project Delivery through the lifecycle from development to delivery and post delivery support. This role line-reports to the Head of Quality & Business Improvement.

Partnering closely and communicating effectively with sponsors, key stakeholders and subject matter experts across all levels of the organization to ensure that projects are executed successfully, achieving business objectives (such as OTD, Cost, Safety).

The person in this role will be able to think both tactically and strategically to formulate the right approach.

Main Duties:

  • Primary authority on all quality related matters on assigned programme(s)/areas of responsibility

  • Interfacing and communication with program and functional areas to support the goals of the business

  • Conduct Quality Audits (product/product release/process/Supplier Quality/Supplier acceptance)

  • Supporting external agency, accreditation body & customer audits

  • Defect investigation to identify and address root cause

  • Ensure effective and timely closure of actions received from Audit NC's/internal 8D's/customer complaints and 8D's

  • Provide data to support bids

  • Ensuring that customer contractual requirements and Quality requirements are fully understood, met and flowed down to the required level, including suppliers and sub-contractors

  • Performing First Article Reviews (FAR's) and qualification activities including internal and supplier

  • Participation in PFMEA’s, design reviews and formal Gate reviews

  • Maintain quality records including SCAR's, 8D's, QCI and customer returns, complaints, audits and inspections

  • Ensuring integrity of products, materials and processes to satisfy business, customer and regulatory requirements

  • Effective and timely monitoring and status reporting for assigned programme(s)/areas of responsibility

  • Independent test witnessing, evaluation / FAR's (on site or at suppliers) and product release

  • Application of statistical techniques to support the effective process management

  • Hosting external agency, accreditation body and customer audits

  • Management of Root Cause Corrective action to ensure timely and effective closure

  • Continued awareness of external standards and regulatory requirements

  • Liaison with Configuration Management (CM) for product release.

  • Ensure the business transitions to meet new regulations and Risk based approach to auditing

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement

    Candidate Requirements:

    Essential:

  • Experience of teams in matrixed environments with the ability to influence others

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. A key aspect to this is to be an excellent listener.

  • Ability to quickly assimilate information and develop strategies & action plans for improvement

  • Demonstrates openness and honesty leading to a high level of trust, confidence, and respect.

  • To be proactive and be able to communicate/participate in senior management meetings and reviews

  • Thorough understanding of business operations and the associated processes & systems

  • Strong ability to effectively analyse, understand and develop performance metrics

  • Significant experience in similar role(s)

  • Eligible for, or holder of current, SC security clearance

    Desirable:

  • Six Sigma Expert certification (black belt) or higher

  • Technical / Engineering qualification and background

  • Related professional body membership(s)

  • AS Lead Auditor trained.
