Scope of Job
Responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of new student events and/or new student orientation programs. New student events and orientations involve the creation of programing for prospective students and families, college access partners and administrators, and involve campus partners: current student, colleges, and university departments.
Description of Duties
Responsible for the strategic planning, program development, budget, marketing, technical operations, and student staff development and supervision.
Plans, organizes, conducts, and promotes new student events and/or new student orientation activities; develops outreach goals and objectives.
Creates, implements, and coordinates all distribution of communication pieces for the assigned programs.
Provides students, and the community at large, accurate information about academic programs and career development opportunities.
Performs annual orientation events for prospective and current students; serves as immediate contact for all day orientation events.
Performs annual recruitment events for prospective students and current students; serves as the immediate contact for all recruitment events.
Initiates, establishes, and maintains working relations with individual from internal departments, external learning institutions, and external agencies, in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Promotes student support services, financial aid programs, counseling services, tutoring services, and other University services to students, parents, college access partners, and others.
May investigate scholarship/internship, trainings, and career development opportunities for students.
Monitors and reports student data and program activities; identifies the need for outreach program development and modification.
Coordinates program development and implementation teams; and, assigns duties and functions accordingly.
Oversees functions of assigned staff; schedules meetings/trainings as needed.
Creates and proposes budgets for program execution.
Plans and prepares documentation for needed reimbursement.
Makes referrals to appropriate university offices.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned support staff.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience in student recruitment, outreach, financial aid and/or in a closely related area in a higher education institution.
Preferred Experience
Supervisory experience. Knowledge of university policies and procedures, resources for students, and enrollment and admissions procedures in the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other
Exceptional verbal, written, and public speaking skills are required. Ability to work with a variety of people. Exceptional planning and organizational skills are a must. Ability to conduct presentations to diverse audiences, communicating with parents and students, and tracking/recording events, student opportunities, and training/career opportunities.
