Ford Motor Company Home Energy Management System (HEMS) Standards Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

What you'll do...

Act as single point of contact to engineering team on HEMS related standards, including EVSE & Utility / Grid

Evaluate current and emerging HEMS standards and develop internal technical position papers as well as support Technical Specialists in authoring product specifications

Participate in relevant industry forums and standards committees to ensure engineering awareness of updates and ensure Ford’s needs are understood

Author requirements & design guides to confirm system compatibility and compliance

Work closely with internal and external partners to increase the corporate knowledge base of Home Energy Management systems & technologies.

Seek alignment between Ford and Supplier regarding interpretation and implementation of standards / requirements applicable to HEMS and EVSE. Also monitor standards for upcoming changes

Support team in development of quality and development docs (CDS, DVP, IFS, FEDE, etc.,)

You'll have...

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems or Controls Engineering or related field

3+ years of confirmed experience in standards / regulatory processes commonly required to be met in the power distribution, electrical energy supply, and/or home energy infrastructure fields

Even better, you may have...

Master of Science degree in Electrical / Systems / Controls Engineering

Experience working with NRTLs such as UL, CSA, and CE, using standards from IEEE, NFPA, and others to apply the associated safety and testing procedures to verify standards and code compliance.

Knowledge of Home Energy Management / Distributed Energy Resource related NFPA NEC electrical code, IEEE, UL, and SAE standards

Strong expertise in standards / regulatory processes; ability to optimally participate in relevant committees, champion Ford’s positions and communicate impacts back to internal Ford engineering & management teams

Practical knowledge of grid / utility power distribution and able to interact with utilities, standards & governmental organizations

Product certification experience working with EMC labs and testing.

Strong communicator, able to effectively present to both technical and executive audiences

Team player comfortable working in a diverse group in a multifaceted, fast paced environment

Self-starting with solid follow-through and multitasking abilities; able to work remotely.

Will be required to understand system requirements and to ensure that the product(s) work in application(s).

Provides direction and leadership to engineers and engineering technicians related to product compliance specific work.
