As the company and industry adopts modern application of systems engineering, we need a subject matter expert position to aid in the continue development of our Ford + technological expertise and strategy.

This position is for a Systems Engineering subject matter expert regarding systems engineering application to all Ford products.

In this position...

• Robust application of modern systems engineering methodology, skills, and tools to increase product quality, provide a reduction of time and effort from baseline, and industrialize and scale the adoption of 21st century systems engineering across Ford Motor Company.

• Assist in the development and deployment of systems engineering application, training, including model-based approaches.

• Lead the resolution of selected Systems Issues that are complex and very cross-functional.

What you'll do...

  • Lead and direct investigative systems issues across PD portfolio and bring to resolution; application of holistic systems analysis required to identify root causes and corrective actions; implement mitigations into forward model processes at a minimum.

  • Development of alternative ‘Plan B’ Architectures & Sub Systems using SE toolbox (DSM / Tradespaces / Design Trees) and cutting-edge CAE toolsVehicle Systems and CAE Tool Benchmarking

  • Requirements Challenge (as part of SysML), CAE Process & Metrics (e.g. Joint Design / Component/System Durability Metrics)Collaboration with RLD teams – Test Definition (Customer Correlation) & Data Integrity / Cascade Process (Fully analytical vs Real World) capturing all sources of input to define correlated models

  • API / KPI Definition and Monitoring with Functions / Vehicle / Attribute teams (UN to UP)

  • Technical facilitation of X-Functional Attribute Issues / Firefighting – ModeFrontier

  • Leads TDRs for selected systems and system level model reviews, leads technical discussions and deep dives to balanced conclusions. Certifies selected/assigned system level DFMEAs.

  • SME on systems engineering modeling standards, competency assessments, systems list (Bill of Systems), FMAs, Requirements / Test Procedures, etc.

  • Strikes a balance between the functions and process in focus areas.

  • Signoff of Systems models w/ specific signoff responsibility BEFORE Sr Tech Ldr / Chief Signoff

  • “Go-To” TS for Problem Solving – SE challenges in Architecting, Development, Detailed Design, Launch, Quality Issues, etc. Expectations to go through systems with part owners.

  • Coach, Mentor and Train – willing and able to get their hands dirty.

  • Focused on robust systems engineering application to mechanical systems, considering packaging compatibility, clearances and moving parts, e.g., wiring and chafing, also fires and other “campaignable” events, and integration of said systems with software and electrical systems.

  • Support drafting of and approval of Global FAPs, policies, and process documentation for MBSE.

  • Support enterprise systems engineering meetings; establish global communication best practices into and out of VHE Systems – SE organization for enterprise consumption.

  • Lead Global Systems Engineering Tech Club or PAT-like forum for issue resolution and knowledge sharing between various Ford enterprise functional engineering organizations, systems, and architecture abstraction levels.

  • Contribute to and advocate best practices for Systems Engineering. Be willing to learn and incorporate MBSE into methodology.

  • Collaborate with other technical specialists, including subsystem and component Technical Specialists as required to foster industrialization of SE throughout the Ford PD enterprise.

  • Stay abreast of latest industry SE practices and standards, e.g., INCOSE, ISO15288:2023.

  • Understands upfront design, verification plan and methods, and industrialization process.

  • Knows the competitive landscape and what it takes to outpace the competition.

  • Fearless in pointing out issues, aggressive in taking action. Speaks with confidence & authority, but is humble & collaborative in leading a tech review & debate.

  • Introduce new technologies and tools, such as AI, into our process.

You'll have...

  • Master’s degree of Engineering (product development, electrical, mechanical, etc.) required, systems engineering degree preferred.

  • 10 years total experience with 6 years’ experience in Modern Systems Engineering

  • Professional certifications from outside organizations, such as INCOSE in systems engineering and related fields are favorably looked upon - the ideal candidate would be a Certified Systems Engineering Professional or higher.

  • Proven history of systems engineering application directly applicable to automotive.

  • Proven history of evaluating choices and directing a team based on technicalideals balanced with industrialization realities.Demonstrated:

  • Knowledge of systems thinking, systems engineering principles and methods, and application of these in model-based environments.

  • Knowledge and experience in Ford Engineering processes with a demonstrated willingness to and success in challenging redundant, obsolete, or non-value-added deliverables / tasks.

  • Knowledge and experience in application of systems and quality tools and methods, e.g., Requirements, FMA, Risk management, reliability, six-sigma, and lean toolkits, in a model-based environment.

  • Ability to lead and align collections of people that do not directly report to this position, especially multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Ability to institutionalize the key factors of SE success and lessons learned through appropriate documentation and to teach associated learning sessions.

  • Ability to form an opinion, communicate it effectively at all levels, and drive the company in a winning direction.
