The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an experienced Corrections Plant Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for providing leadership and training in the field of plant mechanics for Pennsylvania inmates, and aligns with the DOCs mission of providing individualized treatment to offenders for successful transition to the community. DESCRIPTION OF WORK A Corrections Plant Mechanic provides skilled work in the repair of high-pressure boilers and related steam hot water equipment used to generate steam heat and hot water.

Duties include performing maintenance on the following equipment: gas fixed water and steam boilers, chillers and cooling towers, feed pumps, gas and oil handling equipment, emergency diesel equipment, air compressor equipment, domestic hot water boilers, and may include HVAC units. You are responsible for the care, custody and control of inmates during work assignments. In addition, you train inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of plant mechanic work through demonstration, explanation, and close supervision during work assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40-hour work week Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday. This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,753.00 (before taxes). One year of experience in performing skilled mechanical repair work involving heavy machines; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from high school; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
