POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting for a Project Technologist-in-Training (T.T) – Packaged Equipment, to work at our Shepard Office location (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  The Project Technologist-in-Training (T.T) – Package will be responsible for providing support in the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions for products. Reporting to the Package Engineering Supervisor, the Project Technologist-In-Training (T.T) - Package will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to contribute to packaging managed-product packages. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovative design solutions, conducting thorough analyses to optimize package efficiency, and adhering to industry standards and regulatory guidelines. The Project Technologist-in-Training (T.T)– Package will manage and assist with all technical and manufacturing issues on multiple Projects, provide engineering support to the Service department during equipment commissioning and start-up, and contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives of the Engineering Department.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

PACKAGE ENGINEERING SUPPORT (Weighting 50%) Technical Design & Analysis

  • Help create 3D models, GA, structural, and spool drawings following client requirements and internal protocols.

  • Attending internal 3D model review meetings, ensuring adherence to design checklists, and using NAVISWORK Freedom for review.

    Package Design & Documentation

  • Supports P&ID markup, meetings, and coordination with clients.

  • Assists in Process Engineer tasks, focusing on PSVs and control valves.

  • Aids third-party Structural Engineers with weight estimates, beam sizing, and approval communication.

  • Supports Mechanical Engineers in pressure vessel and heat exchanger design.

  • Facilitates information gathering for Pipe Stress Engineers to incorporate recommendations into piping models.

    Equipment & Materials Management Support

  • Create and submit Purchase Requisitions to procurement for equipment at competitive prices.

  • Assist the Instrumentation Specialist in accurate creation of the Instrument Bill of Material (BOM) while adhering to material selection, electrical classification, and certification requirements.

  • Develop skills to review detailed technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for various designs.

  • Master creation of specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and standard operating procedures.

  • Monitoring Inventory of Key materials for current and anticipated projects.

    Technical Communication & Guidance

  • Provides technical guidance for resolving project challenges and communicates effectively across departments.

  • Assists the Service group during equipment commissioning and may conduct site visits.

  • Gains familiarity with various NDE testing methods.

      PROJECT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT (Weighting 25%) Project Collaboration

  • Review customer specifications for projects and assign technical spec reviews to relevant engineering specialties to ensure compliance.

  • Monitor project schedules to ensure timely completion of engineering tasks.

  • Verify proposals and project specifications accepted by clients for adherence.

  • Aid Project Managers in estimating costs and schedule impacts for change orders.

  • Assist in creating Project Operating and Maintenance Manuals.

  • Conduct final P&ID walkthroughs for projects.

  • Participate in project closeout and startup meetings, providing feedback to Project Managers.

    Client Collaboration

  • Collaborate with clients to understand needs, address concerns, and provide tailored technical solutions aligned with their business goals.

  • Engage in client meetings, presentations, and discussions to demonstrate the technical superiority of compression packages.

    QUALITY CONTROL & DOCUMENTATION COMPLIANCE (Weighting 20%) Quality Control Review

  • Participate in client meetings and technical presentations to showcase compression package excellence.

  • Support technical interactions with customers.

    Documentation & Reporting

  • Assist in collecting "As Built" documentation.

  • Aid in compiling the project's "Ship Loose List" with the manufacturing team.

  • Conduct necessary calculations and prepare technical documentation as needed.

  • Review and assist in issuing drawings per company procedures and project schedule.

    CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ( Weighting 5%) Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Capture project lessons learned.

  • Keep abreast of packaging design and tech trends.

  • Pursue training to enhance technical skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology, chemical engineering technology, or a related field is required.

  • Technologist-In-Training (T.T) certification or eligibility for certification is necessary.

  • Previous experience working in a gas processing and manufacturing related industry is considered an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices is expected.

  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools is essential.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources, are required.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment is essential.

  • Being detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills is crucial.
