Job Assignment: Part Time KITCHEN COOK / MEAL DELIVERY PERSON Job Number: 65-1031 Department: 65 - Senior Citizens Program Pay: $11.29 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Program Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a part-time position that will fill in as needed. This person is responsible for preparing all types of cooked foods for the senior citizen nutrition program; to use and care for basic kitchen equipment; to assume full responsibility for preparing meals as assigned by project director. This person is also responsible for transporting meals in a safe and timely manner to and from the Senior Citizens Center. Performs other duties in keeping the interior of the kitchen clean when needed. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:

  • Prepare all types of cooked foods; follow direction as written on recipes.
  • Care for foods properly, both raw and cooked.
  • Carry out proper sanitation and safety procedures; keep work areas neat and clean;.
  • Use and care for basic kitchen equipment; keep equipment clean.
  • Lifting and moving large containers of food while preparing meals.
  • Loadsfood into vehicle, also delivers home delivery meals to eligible participants when needed.
  • Perform other duties asassigned by supervisor.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Employee will work with foods, seasonings, chemicals, mechanical, electrical, and very hot surfaces.Employee is frequently required to perform lifting and carrying of foods weighing up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to go up and down the stairs. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Indoor and outdoor work, both pleasant and unpleasant. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing duties. Requires employee to bend, stoop, walk, stand, kneel, twist, push brooms and sweep. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet. Employee will be exposed to odors, dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and water. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Drives vehicle in adverse weather when transporting meals. Required to go into senior citizens homes and may be exposed to unsanitary conditions and various pets.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Daily contact with employees, daily contact with the public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have enough education to read and write effectively for this position and do minimal math; must be able to comprehend and speak the English language; a high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but is not required; prefer at least two years experience in kitchen duties and preparing food in large quantities. Must be certified in Food Protection.
