What to Expect Day to Day: *THIS IS A 2ND SHIFT ROLE*

In the role of Fabrication Team Lead, you will provide leadership to the fabrication (CNC machining, burn table, and press brake operations) production work areas and to facilitate continuous improvement to reach PQVC goals and ensure customer satisfaction. In this role you will oversee CNC equipment including CNC burning machines, press brake, horizontal and vertical machining centers according to company drawings, specification, and workmanship standards. Current equipment centers include Kinetic burn tables, LVD press brake, and Hass/Okuma/Mazak/G&L machining centers. CAT teams support team People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities.

Required Qualification for Consideration:

  • 3 years’ CNC machining and fabrication experience in a job shop environment or educational certification in machining.

  • Ability to read fabrication blueprints/engineering drawings, write continuous improvement cards, electronically update standard work, and communicate electronically.

  • Ability to read standard work, prints, and write continuous improvement cards.

Top candidates Will bring:

  • Prior leadership experiences, either personal or professional, possessing the skills to mentor and direct others

  • Mechanical aptitude to use basic fabrication hand tools and equipment (i.e. measuring devices, hand tools, grinders, and other special deburring tools)

  • Understanding of geometric dimension and tolerances (GD&T)

  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Ability to identify and communicate tooling and machine problems

  • Comfortable with intermediate use of computers for production transactions

  • Understanding of the metric measurement systems

  • Certification in a trade school in related area

  • Understanding of lean principles, production processes and quality systems.

  • Heavy crane equipment experiences

Essential Duties Day to Day:

  • Responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses, and safety incidents.

  • Use measuring devices and blueprints to inspect parts for quality using statistical process control (SPC) for documentation.

  • Monitor, prioritize, and escalate daily machined and burn table part needs, identify what needs to be processed for the day and execute the most efficient setup that meets part requirements and production demand. Monitor WIP requirements to ensure the number of parts in WIP meet the production schedule and current customer needs.

  • Troubleshoot machine and tooling problems as needed. Identify, document, and communicate problems related to machining and report discrepancies and recommend solutions. Support maintenance programs for CNC machining and burn table equipment.

  • Lead daily production (PQVC), which may include updating daily & weekly metrics, providing input on schedule adjustments, adjusting manpower within value stream teams, and participating in daily production dialogs with team and management.

  • Work with support functions to identify and resolve issues related to safety, quality, velocity, and cost.

  • Provide coverage for team member absences and/or production fluctuation.

  • Operate CNC fabrication equipment following engineering and manufacturing prints, follow documentation for adjusting and completing production jobs. Setup and operate all equipment with stops, clamps, fixtures, tooling, and offsets to produce consistent quality parts.

  • Coordinate continuous improvement to maintain and emphasize standard work by identifying, driving, and sustaining improvements. Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems related to fabrication, report discrepancies and recommend solutions.

  • Train and develop employees on job skills, problem solving and cross training. Provide recognition to employee contributions.

  • May provide input to employee reviews.

  • Support the movement of materials for Fabrication and Paint areas.

  • Electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, process work order and production documentation.

  • Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems, report discrepancies and recommend solutions.

  • Support team People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities.

  • Work and interact effectively in a team environment in alignment with our Code of Conduct and Values in Action.

  • Will work autonomously with limited supervision and may perform other tasks as needed.

Work Location: Brooklyn Park, MN

Compensation: Grade L09

Work Environment & Physical Expectations

  • Exposure to welding fumes

  • Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices

  • Exposure to machining chemicals

  • Noise levels of 85db or greater

  • Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists

  • Lift up to 35lbs frequently

  • Work at multiple heights

  • Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts and various step stools

  • Stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks

  • Work in environment with frequently changing temperatures

  • Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees

  • Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head and rotation of neck.

  • Work in tight spaces

  • Repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling rotating

  • Use of fine motor skills

  • Use of hand tools including grinder, air tools, pliers, reamers, etc.

  • Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toed/metatarsal foot gear.
